In downtown Newark, Ohio, on the corner of W. Main and Third, there stands a building designed by the famous architect Louis Sullivan. Sullivan was an architect from Chicago. He designed a number of "jewel box" banks, which is how people described them. This was because they tended to be boxy in nature, but also quite ornate in design. According to the Columbus Dispatch, he built a total of 8 of these style banks, one of which is located in Newark. It has been listed on the National Register for Historic Places since the 1970s.
I've been in the building once, a long time ago, when I
was going with my teacher and a few other students to a Spelling Bee.
There used to be an ice cream shop there in the first floor. |
According to the Dispatch, he says, "I’m really just a guy that’s trying to see it restored."
