There is something to be said for relaxed air that comes over you when your sitting out under the stars as the 1960s theme song of Star Trek rolls out from the amphitheater. A cold dinner eaten with friends as you stretch out on a picnic basket. There is more to be said for the sheer ridiculousness of being driven inside said amphitheater by a sever thunderstorm while listening to Prairie Home Companion.
Blossom Music Center, named in honor of the Dudley S. Blossom family, located in Cuyohoga Falls Ohio. A covered amphitheater/pavillian that opens out onto a large gently sloping hill. The entire area is enclosed so to enter you have to either buy lawn or theater tickets. It is the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra and hosts a large number of bands throughout its open season. All outside performances are handled by Live Nation. Usually open from June to September there are many performances for each season.
Blossom was planned and constructed between 1966 and 1968. In 2002, Blossom underwent its first major improvements since its completion in 1968. It improved facilities and amenities open to patrons. After improvements were completed the pavilion can hold up to 5,700 and another 13,500 can be accommodated on the lawn. It continued to improve in order to become handicap accessible.
Among the amenities are the Blossom grille, the Bandwagon gift shop, and a party center. The main grounds also hold the Kent/Blossom Eelles' Gallery and three landscape gardens. All of which are named after a supporter or contributor to the Center or an affiliated organization.
While the weather can play havoc on an outdoor theater it really is an enjoyable experience to watch the sky darken on the fourth of July while listening to the 1812 overture. The fireworks don't hurt the experience.
