In staying with the theme of giving back to the community I want to mention the story of Darnell Hoskins. Darnell is from the city of Dayton and is a graduate of Dayton Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. Upon graduating from Hoskins accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He played there for three years before transferring back home for his senior campaign to play for the University of Dayton under then coach Jim O'Brien. Hoskins played overseas for a time before returning to the Miami Valley area as a manager of an All-State insurance branch in Vandalia Ohio.
Hoskins coached under Jim Staley at C-J for a time before accepting the head coaching job at Springfield High School. When the Thurgood Marshall position opened up Hoskins took the opportunity. With that one of Dayton's native sons made a commitment to firmly embed himself in the community. I have posted a link to a DDN article that summarizes Hoskins reason for returning to Dayton.
