LOCAL SPORTS LEGENDS

Who is the greatest athlete to come out of Dayton, Ohio? Who is the greatest football player to come out of Dayton Ohio? Who is the greatest basketball player to come out of Dayton Ohio? In other cities this may be a simple trivial matter  but to those in the know and with exposure and knowledge of the rich local sports scene in Dayton this debate can last for hours without a firm conclusion. For its relatively middling size Dayton has birthed an astronomically high number of athletes to compete collegiality at the Division 1 level and subdivision level (D1-AA). The city has a lot to be proud of in that regard.
Edwin C. Moses pictured above won over ONE HUNDRED consecutive races at the international level between 1976 and 1984. That feat has not been matched and may not be for the foreseeable future. Moses also achieved gold several times in the 1976 and 1984 Olympics.
The debate for top local women's basketball player is one that is incredibly close. Listed above is Allison Bailes of Beavercreek Ohio. Alison was a first team Mcdonalds High School All-American and at 6'8 was one of the more dominant high school players in recent memory. Alison went on to play at Duke University and as well had an extensive WNBA career. The Beavercreek vs Chaminade Julienne battles from the late 90's to mid-2000's also featured the lady listed below Ms. Bailes, Brandy Hoskins. Brandy was one of the best pure scorers (able to score from anywhere on the court) in Miami Valley history. She went on to attend The Ohio State University and was as well drafted to the WNBA. Tamika Williams listed below Brandy is as well in the onversation. She was a two time All-American and as well achieved All-American status at UCONN and won mulitple national titles as well. Not mentioned are names such as Megan Duffy, Tamika Guthery, and Joy Johnson, all from Dayton and all great by any measure.
