DESTROYING OUR MONUMENTS

In doing my local research paper I found a very interesting and disturbing trend Dayton is coerced in. The demolition of local grade schools. As Dayton remodels its schools and use state initiative money and as well the local hard earned tax money to build new schools...old ones are abandoned and eventually destroyed. If the intent is to build a new school on the same spot of the formerly occupied school house then destroying the school for logistical purposes makes sense. But if the intent is to move to a separate locale then why not try to find some good use of the building? These schools are well made and built to stand the test of time from a structural standpoint. Often times these schools reside in communities where they need access to different initiatives from health care to community gyms etc. Why not invest in the infrastructure that is already in existence? Make them community outreach centers. Make them hubs for educational reinforcement i.e torturing ACT and SAT prep courses. College exposure programs, the list goes on and on. But to simply cast aside these buildings and make them rubbish and vacant lots seems crass to me. I have provided a link below that past and current schools of Dayton dating back to the early 1900's.
